THE WAY WE WERE!!  2004 - 2005

The Way  We Were.  2004-2005

Judy did a fantastic job providing local arrangements for this year’s joint installation at the Radisson in Pinellas Park, with Paula and Betsi providing Flag Day decorations and give-aways.  Paula  installed the new officers.  Our club was well represented thanks to Alice Schutzendorf, Marie York, Grace Sargent, Pat Arbutine, Martha Gray, Nancy Cusick, Betsi Lewis, Paula Harvey, Terry Turner, Karen Curry, Mel Chase and guests Cassandra Helms and Rochelle Poinsetta.

Betsi and Marsha attended the Leadership retreat on July 23rd and 24th.

We  hosted District II meeting. At the Radisson in Pinellas Park.   Judy, Mel, Betsi, Susan, Alice, Marie, Grace, Paula, Karen, Nancy, and Delegates Minnie and Terry were instrumental in making it happen

Sharon Coil from Women on the Way and her guest, one of the Women on the Way, were at our September meeting and received  a check from us.

We were involved in Back to School Night with Steinmart.

We  worked with Jazz Holiday in Clearwater, Terry Sue Turner was coordinaqtor.

We participated in Saturday of Service by participating in Day of Good Deeds in Dunedin.  Some of us spent a day at  the Rosewood House II, an assisted living facility.   Marsha McGrath wowed them with her storytelling and then we showed the residents how to make flower centerpieces for their rooms.  We wound it up with a couple games of Bingo.

Some of our funds went to WOA in Bolivia,  theDistrict II International Goodwill project to assist a new club with funding their first Womens’s Opportunity Award Program.  Martha Gray was funding coordinator .

We donated to the Care Center for Abuse & Rape Emergency  in Punta Gorda.

In November we passed out purple slips with the emergency numbers to the Abuse Shelters.

Thanks to Sharon Coil and Alice Schutzendorf,  we had a family to share our abundance with in December.

We enjoyed a great Christmas Party at Betsi’s home.

We donated Valentine gifts to single mothers.

We selected Kirsten Wedde of Tarpon Springs for her work with the Francis House and with Dunedin Homeless Learning Center as our 2004 Violet Richardson Award Winner.  Each party received $100.

Our club's Women/s Opportunity Award winner was Barbara Ruth Soganic of Clearwater FL.   She received an $800 scholarship.

Karen Curry's   "Deployed Females" Project was a letter to us from a woman soldier stationed in Qatar.  ( Headquarters - Iraq Situation)  Karen kept up the correspondence until the soldier was home safe.  The Biennium  Project was "Women Survivors of War" .   They  were referring to Afghanistan & Bosnia.  But  we felt that the  women soldiers in Iraq are also survivors of war.

Some of us  celebrated New Year’s Day by raising funds at the Outback Bowl  Our hard working ladies took on a real job. Thanks for generating $375.00 for our programs.

We partnered with the Toronto Blue Jays during Spring Training.  March 5th - Opening Day was a fund raiser and a name recognition event for usBlue Jays ticket sales Coordinator was Betsi Lewis.
